The only time he's good.......

is when he's asleep. Mischief a.k.a Havoc. One half of the dynamic duo, the terrible twins.... Havoc and Mayhem.

They're here......

I managed to get a first shot of a warbler for 2022 yesterday. It was just the usual Robins and Grackles all afternoon until this little gem made an appearance. A most welcome one at that.

Friday Afternoon at the Waterfall

Friday afternoon birds, nothing spectacular just the usual crowd. Still waiting for the first big push of migrants but it's early yet.

Rainy Afternoon

It started raining just as I was about to go out and set up the blind so I didn't. Then it brightened up and the light was beautiful so I went out and set up the blind. Then it started raining again. The light wasn't bad but there wasn't many takers at the waterfall. The rain became pretty constant and the light went so I came in around 4pm. Here's a few from this afternoon.

Bathtime

Mostly Grackles, Robins and Blue Jays this afternoon. They had a lovely time splashing about in the bath I made for them.

Waterfall Practice

I'm spending time at the revised waterfall learning where the birds land, where they drink, where they bathe etc. This afternoon was very different from yesterday afternoon in that there was pretty much non stop action.

Friday Afternoon at the Waterfall

Very bright sunshine all day so the light wasn't that great particularly early afternoon. It got a bit better later in the afternoon however. The temperatures were only in the upper 60's so the birds weren't that much need of a drink or a bath to cool off. Here's a couple of highlights from the afternoon.

1st session at the waterfall this year.

Monday morning it was 31F today it reached 80F, my body has not yet got used to such heat. It was rather warm in the blind and it's a good job I was wearing my Icebreaker underpants that's all I'm saying. There was nothing exciting but it was great to finally sit there and watch the birds come in to drink or bath. We've been working on enlarging it when the weather permitted and now I can say categorically that it's a 6 Robin sized waterfall. There were 6 socially distant Robins all bathing at the same time and as they're all joisting for territory it was pretty good to see them bathe without an attack from any of them.

I've been using an iPhone app called Merlin to identify birds by sound. You just select Sound ID and it listens for birds and tell you what it's found. It's pretty damn good but it does make a mistake occasionally. It's been telling me for weeks that it's hearing Cedar Waxwing in the yard. I've looked but have not been able to see one. Last night I found them. I've seen them on and off in the yard over the years but very rarely at the waterfall. Heres one from last night.

2nd Mtn. Hawkwatch Lobotanical Society Spring Outing to Shenk's Ferry

Needless to say it was a fun trip and a good time was had by all, I think. As the average age of the Lobotanical Society  is over 92 I've forgotten.
