My Lens is too long.

Just for a giggle I tweaked my West Side bird table setup yesterday. The regulars found it to their liking and after I filled it up again this morning I got set up around lunchtime as it was cloudy but quite bright. I decided to try out my 800mm for the first time at the setup. I never thought I hear myself say it but my lens was too long! I struggled to get all of a Blue Jay in the frame.

My Right Foot

This is my foot sitting on a frigid rock in a 20 mph NW wind in 54F (12C) temperatures. I wasn’t prepared even though I knew it was going to be chilly. I had on jeans, a long sleeved merino woolen t-shirt, a wind proof outer jacket with fleece lining. I had a wooly hat to keep my head warm. Who would have thought you’d need gloves in September? Not me. My little fingers were icicles. I was hoping for some shots of hawks and was waving around my 800mm trying to find the camera buttons with frost bitten fingers. I didn't last long.🥶

No flies on me

In all of my trips to the New Jersey coast or the Delaware Bay recently I have been plagued with those nasty green headed blood sucking flies. Not yesterday.

I started the day at Brigantine a.k.a. Edwin B Forsythe NWR.

I then drove down to Cape May to the Hawkwatch Platform at the Lighthouse.
I took loads of pictures but the birds were really high and as it was hot there was lots of heat distortion.
Not a bad haul of birds though, I didn't see the whole list but a good selection of them.

After several hours there I decided to head home via Delaware with a few seabirds and a fair wind and a bit of luck.
