Bird Photography

It was quite warm again today and no hardship to have the window open overlooking the bird feeders. It took a good while because the Sunday morning Hawk must have been around to keep them away. It's usually the case. Eventually they did show up though I never got a decent shot of the Chickadee's.

Ricketts Glen

An image from mid October at Ricketts Glen State Park. I'd love to go up there to see the waterfalls all iced over but it would be way too dangerous. It's treacherous enough in dry conditions let alone ice. Niagara Falls is another thing, that would be nice to see when it's frozen.

Bluey Asleep

As I've mentioned before, Bluey is a Siamese variant, Flame Point apparently but as he turned up in our yard without a passport who knows. Anyway, he has the flickery beautiful blue eyes of a Siamese and best of all the talkativeness of a Siamese. Except at 2am in the morning. He was obviously hungry and desperately needed Fancy Feast to keep him going until breakfast. Outside the bedroom door, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow ( you get the idea) We ignored him for 1/2 an hour but he carried on, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, scratch, scratch, scratch, meow, meow, meow meow. Guess who had to get up to feed him? Heres a picture of the little darling asleep on one of the cat trees. I didn't wake him up honestly.
Very shallow depth of field picture of Bluey.

In the not so bleak midwinter

It's been downright warm recently, t-shirt weather in fact. I saw 73f the other day and the birds are singing in the morning. Heres a picture from this afternoon without snow!

Not so bleak midwinter.

Pinacle Cove or Monument Cove

I was doing a bit of surfing and came across website where someone was selling (or trying to sell) pretty much this same image for over a $1000. Damn! Nice if you can get it.

This is either called Monument Cove or Pinacle Cove or Rock as the case might be. It's just along the Acadia Park Loop Road from Thunder Hole.

Afternoon at Willow Point

This afternoon we had a stroll out to Willow Point in the bright Winter sunshine. We saw quite a few birds along the way, 4 Bald Eagle's, a Northern Harrier, Tundra Swans, Mergansers. Bluebirds and Tree Sparrows. No Snow Geese yet but it won't be long.

White-breasted Nuthatch

After re-arranging my bird feeder yesterday I got set up to take a few bird pictures this morning. Only the White-breasted Nuthatch got the message.

Misty Morning

I went out early to take a picture of the moon but it was all fuzzy in the mist so I took this one instead.

Tree in the Mist

An early morning walk up to the top of the yard a while back presented this scene which I thought was worth a picture.

Skunky

This evening I was down in the -1 level with the window open talking to outside Ginger kitty while I fed him. I could hear the leaves rustling under the deck and Ginger wasn't very happy when Skunky came up to eat his food. I popped upstairs to grab the nearest camera and took a few pictures through the open window. This is with a manual focus 21mm wide angle lens.

No escape.

This time of year there is no escape from leaves. You see the beautiful colors, you drive through them, you walk through them. Worst thing is you have to shift them off your lawn! It takes a lot of effort I tell you. I think it's worth though. I went for a walk up at Mt Gretna this morning and ended up taking pictures of leaves mostly.

Old Barn

I noticed the  stone walls of old barn across the lane were starting to fall so I walked over and took some photos for posterity.

Ricketts Glen

I don't think we could have picked a better day to visit Ricketts Glen. Bit of overcast, bit of blue skies, fall colors. Nice day out, tiring but nice.

Day 9 Last trip around Acadia

The forecast (not that I normally believe anything the weather forecasts tell me) was accurate for once, it said rain at 11 and sure enough it started raining at 11. Still, made for different photographic opportunities.

Day 8 Maine, Bass Harbor at Dawn, Boat trip from Northwest Harbor

Day 8 started early when I dragged Lynn and Dave out of bed an hour or so before dawn to clamber over rocks at the waters edge in the pre dawn darkness to photograph the Lighthouse with the sun coming up. One hardy photographer was there before us, standing in bare feet with the incoming tide lapping around his feet to get a better angle. Damn it was chilly!
