Monday Morning and it's quiet out there.

When I got set up it was very quiet, I suspect the Cooper's hawk was on the prowl looking for breakfast. I persevered and was patient and eventually I started hearing birds. I set the Merlin Sound ID listening  and it heard Blue Jay, American Robin, Dark-eyed Junco, Red-bellied and DownyWoodpeckers, Carolina Wren, White-breasted Nuthatch, Red-breasted Nuthatch, White-throated Sparrow and even a Hermit Thrush. Eventually a Downy Woodpecker showed up, first a female then a male, the extremely noisy Carolina Wren started pecking around and I managed to get it in full chirp. Several Junco's got close and I managed not just one but two together, one darker than the other, they do come in all shades of grey, not as many as 50 though.

Cold Sunday Morning

I got about an hour in this morning before a Raven flew over and a Coopers Hawk started screeching which made the birds vanish in an instant.

First Frost and first Snowbirds

Last night we had the first frost of the Fall and the Dark-eyed Junco's arrived with the lower temperatures.

And so it begins

The Winter Finch Forecast for this coming winter certainly looks promising. I'm keeping my Black Oil Sunflower platform feeder well topped up but no Evening Grosbeaks as yet. Must get more Nyger Seed though.

Autumn Leaves Start to Fall

A nice bright sunny day after 3 days of rain, overcast skies and drizzle. Today is colder with a stiff Northerly wind blowing the leaves off the trees.

I'm a Flasher

Sorry, not the rain mac wearing flasher but the photographic type of flasher. Monday was heavy overcast and more or less continuous rain. Not a day for getting out on the yard and doing stuff. I did a bit of vacuuming over the weekend, nothing to stop me taking a few photographs from the comfort of a nice armchair and a cup of English Breakfast tea. Too dark for normal photography so I got the tripod set up outside with the remote flash and voila, perches + birds = photographs.
