Red, White and Blue (and Brown and Black and White)

No, I'm not getting all patriotic. Thats the colors of the birds I was photographing this morning. I'll throw in a Brown Creeper and a Black and White Downy as well.

March Robin

The Robins arrived a few days ago along with the warmer temperatures. Their song particularly in the early evening is lovely.

Ides of March

Yesterday was the Ides of March and we had our first thunderstorm of the year. Weather.com sent a notification like 'Rain will begin at 5:47. The rain will be light and continue on and off for a few hours'. Yeah right. It pissed it down. A few minutes later the following notification, 'Lightning struck 5 miles from you'. It was torrential rain for about 10 minutes then the sun came out. I never believe the weather forecasts. Still the light afterwards was gorgeous.

Ides of March Thunderstorm

The light this morning is equally nice. Yeah. I know, I've got some leaves to get up. With a bit of luck the March Winds we’re having today will blow them away.

Not according to plan

Well, my day was definitely not as I had planned. Still I made the best of it and had time to take a few pictures. That can't be a bad thing can it?

Astrophotography .... more or less

Thursday Evening. It's been a very warm spring day today. Loads of Robins and Grackles in the yard. It's also trash night, or it's supposed to be if Waste Industries actually show up to collect it. On the way back up the drive after taking the wheelie bin down I noticed the nice half moon. As it's nice and warm out I grabbed a camera and tripod and went back out to take a couple of shots. Here's the result.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away the Small Faces had a hit with "Lazy Sunday Afternoon". I'm not going to get a lazy Sunday afternoon. I've got to unload trays of cat food and 240lb of Kitty Litter out of the car. Meanwhile the cats are just having great time. Damn cats, in my effin chair too!

Pumpkin, Badger and Lucy in my chair.

Nice Bright Saturday Morning

Not too cold this morning even though the snow is not going anywhere soon. I filled up the feeders to shut the Carolina Wrens up and stuck the lens out the living room window. Not a bad selection of birds were visiting.

Carolina wren

Looked out and noticed a Brown Creeper looking for food around my feeder log so I went out and filled it with suet. Wasn't long before a Carolina Wren and his mate showed up.

New Feeder Log

After doing a bit of this and bit of that this morning I wandered down to the bottom of the yard which is really the top end of the yard as it's all uphill. Anyway, I picked out a couple of logs as perches for my feeder. Drilled some holes for suet and as I was filling one of the holes a little Brown Creeper came and landed on my finger. He took a bit of suet and was off! A good omen I thought. I finished setting it up and went inside to get the camera setup and within a couple of minutes he was back with his girlfriend. It was non stop for the rest of the morning. There were visits from a White-breasted Nutchatch, a Starling and a Downy Woodpecker and I wasn't there long.
