Phoebe in the Snow

Little Phoebe has been in the yard for a few weeks now. I make sure he/she always has a good supply of mealworms and water to wash them down. Today it's been snowing nearly all day and we ended up with about 5 inches or so of dry powder so pretty easy to clear from the driveway.

Snomageddon ...... not!

Well the 1-2 ft of Snow, Ice Storms, Power Outages didn't materialize as predicted by the weather forecasters (now there's a thing). I had bought some battery operated lanterns, I'd fired up the generator. I'd fueled little John Deere ready for the snow event which pretty much missed us. We had about an inch of snow then it rained for the rest of the night. It’s getting a bit windy and the temperature is dropping down to 5f or 6f tonight they say. I've been putting plenty of food out all day for the birds and theres water heaters in the bird baths for them.

I took a few photos of the felines but decided that I've had several in a row on here so here's a Nuthatch instead.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin was sitting cleaning herself, lick, lick, lick, rub, rub, rub. In between licking and rubbing I took this one.

Absolutely ruined more like.

Sleepy Nutkin

Just been out and fitted the snow blade to little John Deere and cleared the 2 inches of snow from the driveway. Then I came in and warmed up and decided to torment the cats with the camera and flashy thing. Nutkin was not at all impressed when I woke her up.

Bluebirds

Right now theres a ravenous horde of Bluebirds that are scoffing my mealworms. Or should that be ravenous horde of Starlings scoffing my mealworms? Well Bluebirds are prettier than Starlings so here's a Bluebird picture from this afternoon.

Sunday Afternoon Birds

As it was a nice bright (but breezy) afternoon I thought I'd pop over to Middle Creek to see what birds were in residence. As I arrived there were several people watching a couple of Northern Harriers, bit distant but I took a few shots. I've not included those images as the birds were between me and the sun. I walked out to Willow Point and there wasn't much except a few distant Common Mergansers. Heading back one of the Harriers came right over me, the light was still crap but at least she was closer. I heard there had been a couple of White-fronts but if they were there they were out of sight. I stopped to take a few shots of the Tundra Swans and headed home to a much needed cup of Blackwood Organic tea.

Sunday Morning Birds

Seeing a bit of activity on the bird feeder I got set up to take some pictures out of the window. There was a stiff cold breeze so I didn't stick it for long. I think there's a Hawk about because apart from the Brown Creeper there's nothing so I gave up. I'm sure there's a Hawk about because one of the Bluebirds is just sitting in the mealworm feeder. There are no other birds in sight at the other feeders so my guess is Hawkie is around.

Is it Spring already? The last few days I've been seeing an Eastern Phoebe in the yard. He's eating the dried mealworms I've put out for the hordes of Bluebirds. The Winterberry bushes still have loads of berries so he's got plenty of food and shelter if the weather turns bad.

Red-bellied Woodpecker

I put in a new woodpecker log on my feeder yesterday. It attracted this Red-bellied this morning.
